Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) leader Rajendra Mahato has said that the country would plunge into never ending conflict if the second phase of local level elections slated for June 28 were held forcefully without addressing the party’s demands.
Speaking at a press conference organised at Ghantaghar Chowk in Birgunj on Wednesday, leader Mahato said that the protest programmes would not be halted this time in the name of talks.
“Conducive environment for the elections has not been created yet,” he said, adding, “Elections are being held to implement the erroneous constitution.”
He said that the government should resolve the issues of demarcation and citizenship among others to take the the party on board the elections.
Saying that the Madhesi people want their rights instead of elections, he said that the country would plunge into grave crisis if the elections slated for June 28 were not postponed.
“The country will be saved if the elections are held after resolving the issues of Madhes, otherwise the country will head towards conflict,” he warned.
RJP-N leaders have been urging the government to ensure passage of a revised constitution amendment bill, withdraw false cases slapped against the cadres of the agitating forces, and increase the number of local levels in Madhes on the basis population.
