The impeachment motion filed against Chief Justice Sushila Karki has been withdrawn.

A day after informing Speaker Onasari Gharti to put the motion on hold, proposer of the motion Min Bahadur Bishwokarma and supporter Tek Bahadur Basnet wrote to her on Monday stating that they had withdrawn the proposal.

The duo cited the need for harmony, cooperation and understanding among the constitutional bodies at this sensitive hour of constitution implementation as reasons for the decision.

Pointing to “pressing national issues”, Bishwokarma and Basnet filed a letter in the Parliament Secretariat on Sunday seeking to halt the impeachment motion.

On Monday, ahead of budget presentation, the main opposition CPN-UML pressed the ruling parties to withdraw the impeachment motion immediately, threatening to obstruct the House session for preventing Finance Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara from reading out the annual fiscal estimates.
