Leadership change won’t affect elections: Deuba

Issuing a statement after Dahal’s resignation, the NC president praised Dahal, cataloguing his government’s achievements like holding the first phase of long overdue local elections in a peaceful and impartial manner. “The process to amend the constitution has moved ahead in the last 10 months,” said Deuba. “Within this timeframe, economic growth has increased significantly owing to the growing economic activities as a result of peace and stability in the country.”
Deuba has also assured that government change process will not affect the second phase of local elections which is scheduled for June 14.
He noted that the Dahal government was formed based on a political agreement between the NC and Maoist Centre mainly to ensure broader acceptance of the new constitution, hold three tiers elections and take the country on the path of peace, stability and prosperity.
Expressing confidence that the cooperation based on the agreement between the NC and Maoist Centre would continue in future, Deuba has said his party will always remain committed to implementing the pacts reached with all the political parties.
According to NC leader Ramesh Lekhak, also the minister for physical infrastructure and transportation, the present Congress-Maoist Centre alliance, backed by some other parties, will remain intact until other two elections are held.
