A father hung his eight-year-old daughter to death and made a failed suicide attempt with another daughter, aged three, before he was arrested from a hotel room in Ilam Bazaar, Ilam, on Friday night.

Raju Chaudhary, 32, after murdering his eldest daughter, was trying to hang himself and his second child when the rope snapped, alerting the hotel owner who then called police.  

When police broke into the hotel room, they found  Chaudhary alive, his eldest daughter dead, and his youngest daughter in an unconscious state. 

Chaudhary has confessed that his action was a result of a fight with his wife, said Superintendent of Police Sushil Yadav. 

The cause of their fight was not immediately clear.  

Chaudhary had apparently stormed out of his apartment with his two daughters in tow after a fight with his wife. He had then booked a room in the hotel just 300 metres away from his apartment. 

SP Yadav said Chaudhary, who hails from India, had been living in Ilam for the past 20 years. 

Missing boy, 2, found dead, uncle arrested

A two-year-old missing child was found buried near his house at Naraha Village Council-3 in Siraha district on Friday evening. The body of Ranjan Yadav was found with his throat slit and buried in a field in front of his house, police said. He had been missing since Wednesday evening. Police have arrested the boy’s uncle, Suresh Yadav, for questioning.
