The Embassy of Nepal in Beijing, with the support of local Chinese authorities, has rescued three Nepalis, who were said to have been trafficked to China in December last year, from Shandong, an eastern Chinese province on the Yellow Sea.

The rescued Nepalis have been identified as Meghraj Limbu, Surje Bahadur Limbu and Tej Bahadur Chongbang.

Some unscrupulous agents had taken the trio to China in December on a 30-day tourist visa promising lucrative jobs in one of the world’s fastest growing economies. 

After spending three months without visa and work, they had approached the Nepali embassy in Beijing. 

They did not have a valid visa and they had run out of money, said the embassy in a press note. The embassy had also received SOS calls from the victims’ relatives from Nepal. Joint efforts by the embassy, Shandong Provincial Public Security Bureau and other concerned authorities ultimately resulted in successful rescue of the trio, according to the embassy. 

They were issued a 10-day visa and no fines were slapped for overstaying in China. The embassy then contacted their families in Nepal, asking them to arrange their return tickets. They have safely returned home, said the embassy. The embassy has requested concerned departments in Nepal to investigate the matter. It has also called on Nepalis not to fall prey to human traffickers.
