The Patan High Court on Wednesday stayed the implementation of Election Commission’s decision to deploy civil servants, apart from the judicial service, as election officers (EO) for the local level elections. 

A single bench of Justice Balbhadra Bastola issued the order, directing the EC not to move ahead with its decision regarding the appointment of election officials. Judicial service officials had moved the court, arguing that the EC’s decision was in violation of the tradition of appointing EOs only when officers from the judicial service were inadequate for the election.
