Commander of US Pacific Command Admiral Harry B Harris on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat separately.
While commending the US Army’s support to Nepal in the aftermath of the April 2015 earthquake, PM Dahal said that it was an example of high level partnership. Admiral Harris also paid tribute to six US Army personnel who had lost their lives while rescuing quake-affected people and extended condolences to the US Army and the bereaved families.
According to a press statement, Dahal also thanked the US for the continued support in development, security and social reforms as both nations enjoy 70 years of bilateral ties. PM Dahal said he expected similar US cooperation in the days ahead.
Commander Harris stated that US and the US Army had friendly relations with Nepal and Nepal Army. Later in the day, Admiral Harris met Foreign Minister Mahat. In the meeting, Mahat thanked the US government for providing various kinds of support to Nepal.
Harris told Mahat that the Nepali and US armies share relations and commended the Nepal Army’s role in global peace keeping initiatives. He also extended his best wishes for the upcoming local polls, according to a statement.
