Media suggested not to use words disrespecting people with disabilities

In a discussion programme on the report prepared after carrying out monitoring the news related to gender-based violence in Nepali media here on Sunday, speakers noted that words like 'blind' and 'deaf' that have been used for calling names to the government was very disrespectful of the differently-abled people.
They said that media persons should be alert that the news published and disseminated in media should not be hurting the women and children. They also suggested to give continuity to awareness programme to end discrimination.
President of Asmita House Indu Tuladhar, Press Council member Subekshya Bindu Tuladhar and other speakers pointed out that the media were still not giving priority to issues of equality between men and women.
The Publication House started monitoring of the gender-based violence-related news in the Nepali media from June 1-30, 2016.
