Nepali social worker Anuradha Koirala is among recipients of this year’s prestigious Padma Shri Award, the fourth highest civilian award of India.
According to a Times of India report on Wednesday, women’s rights activist Anuradha Koirala of Nepal is among the foreigners in the list of Padma Shri.
“Congratulations to Dijju Anuradha Koirala, founder of Maiti Nepal, for being awarded the Padma Shri Award 2017 by India!” the Embassy of India in Kathmandu tweeted on Wednesday, confirming the Indian government’s decision to confer the prestigious award on Koirala. Koirala, who has dedicated her life to helping victims of sex trafficking, was declared CNN Hero in 2010. She was honoured with Mother Teresa Awards in 2014.
