Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat, who is currently in the Indian capital to attend a conference, on Tuesday met Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and State Minister for External Affairs VK Singh.
The Nepali Embassy said the talks were cordial and issues related to mutual concerns were figured out. In both the meetings, Nepal raised the anti-dumping duty imposed by India on Nepali products and other bilateral trade concerns. Indian customs authorities have imposed 12.5 percent excise duty on goods made of natural fibre and others.
“We requested [them] to remove such problems through intervention from the higher level. Both the ministers are positive about it,” said Nepal’s Ambassador to India Deep Kumar Upadhyay, who was present in the meeting.
Earlier, the Indian Finance Ministry had recommended its anti-dumping department charge 2.5 percent duty on jute ropes, 1.5 percent on hessian jute fabric and 5 percent on jute sacks.
The Nepali side raised a wide-range of trade and transit issues, urging Indian authorities to resolve them as per the bilateral trade and transit treaty.
