Attorney General Raman Kumar Shrestha has declined to give his advice to Impeachment Recommendation Committee (IRC) over the impeachment against Lokman Singh Karki former chief of Commission for the Investigation of Authority claiming his office is authorized to give advice only to the government bodies.

Following differences among the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML lawmakers the IRC on Monday had called Shrestha, Secretary of Minister for Law and Justice and Chairman of Law Commission for the consultation on Tuesday meeting. However, Shrestha denied participating in the meeting. The national conference of government attorney’s held last month also had decided that Office of Attorney General will only advice to the government offices.

It is learnt that Shrestha isn’t happy with the IRC’s decision to call Law Commission and Law Secretary which he believed gave equal status to other two bodies. “He said he would come for the advice where Law Secretary and Chairman of Law Commission have been called,” a member of the Committee told the Post seeking anonymity.
