Metropolitan Police Circle Spokesperson SP Pradhumna Karki informed that Balaju Police Circle arrested two persons possessing 15 kg of illegal gold.
DSP Santosh Tamang of Balaju Police Circle said the gold was found hidden inside an iron box in the back seat of a Tata sumo. It took hours to police to finally detect the gold as the iron box was welded and embeded inside the seat.
The arrested person, who is the driver of the Tata sumo, said he drove through Kerung in Rasuwa district. Police said, another person travelling in the vehicle managed to escape before the arrest. “The driver seems to be just a porter,” said DSP Tamang.
The driver’s statement reveals that he was instructed to drive to Ekantakuna in Kathmandu and hand over the vehicle’s key to a person who would come in contact there.
The confiscated gold are in the shape of biscuit and each cake weighs one kg, police said.
The incident comes after the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police had seized 33 kg of gold that had passed undetected through the customs from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on January 5.
