DoF condemns murder of forest guard
The government has condemned the killing of Ganesh Bahadur Shahi, a forest security guard deployed at the District Forest Office in Taplejung.The government has condemned the killing of Ganesh Bahadur Shahi, a forest security guard deployed at the District Forest Office in Taplejung. Shahi, a native of Dasera VDC in Jajarkot, was found brutally murdered by a local man over a land boundary dispute on Sunday.
Condemning the act of killing its on-duty official, the Department of Forests (DoF) said in a statement on Monday asked the concerned authority for a thorough investigation into the incident and take action against the culprit.
According to DoF Spokesperson Chandra Man Dongol, the concerned authority has taken the incident seriously and will arrange for a special financial support to the bereaved family.
A media report on Sunday quoted Ram Bahadur KC, deputy superintendent of police in Taplejung saying, Sabin Limbu , a local from the Khokling VDC in the district attacked Shahi who had come to settle a dispute over land that was allegedly claimed by a local community forest.
Limbu, Shahi, representatives of the community forest and other villagers had gathered at the house of Bishnulal Panta to sort out the disagreement on Sunday morning.
According to witnesses, Limbu snatched a khukuri from a villager in the middle of the meeting and chased Shahi. The villagers later found Shahi’s decapitated body nearly 150 metres from Panta’s house.
The DoF has also appealed to all the concerned forest authorities and representatives of the community forestry users groups to continue carrying out their regular duties.
