The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said the status of human rights in the country has become challenging of late due to political instability.
“The uncertain political situation has put the Nepali people in suffocation. The human rights situation has become more challenging,” NHRC Spokesperson Mohana Ansari said, addressing a press conference organised by the NHRC Regional Office, Nepalgunj, on Sunday.
People are getting frustrated towards NHRC’s works for no disposal of cases recommended to the government for actions, she added.
“The distance between the government and the citizen is widening due to ineffective performance of national mechanisms in protection and preservation of human rights. It is obviously not a good indication.”
The NHRC has a list of human rights violators, she said, adding that the constitution human rights watchdog body would disclose the names soon.
