The government has been working to prepare a master plan aimed at bringing the children with physical disabilities to schools. 

Information about this was shared at an interaction programme on 'challenges facing students with visual impairment' organised by the Education Journalists Group here today. 

Deputy Director at the Department of Education Ganesh Poudel said an introduction of a master plan was forthcoming. 

"All school-age children with disabilities are not able to come to schools and the government has started preparing a master plan to ensure school education to them." 

Some 72,795 disabled school-age children out of 500,000 are out of schools, he added. 

The government guarantees hostel facility and other additional facilities to bring children with seven types of disabilities to school and sustain them there. Presently 6,200 are entitled to the full scholarship from the government for school education. 

Under the government supervision and management, 32 special schools are in operation targeting disabled students. Of them, 17 are for the deaf, 14 for mentally retarded and one for the blind. The government is thinking to develop an alternative model of exam question papers for them, Poudel added. RSS
