Child protection officer Bindukala Bhandari confirmed that the girl was only 16 and that she was being married to a 23-year-old man. It was also revealed
that the girl's parents had changed the year of her birth in her birth registration certificate the authorities cross-checked The girl's school mark sheet.
“The girl’s date of birth was changed to February 2, 1999, in her birth registration certificate. Her eighth grade mark sheet states her birth date as February 1, 2001, ” she said. "Even if we consider her birth registration certificate, she is still not of legal age."
