The government has decided to mobilise teams to monitor if the earthquake-affected families are using the housing reconstruction aid to its purpose.
The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has prepared a working procedure to monitor the reconstruction process in all 14 districts that were affected by the 2015 earthquake.
As per the new procedure, the teams will monitor whether the households that have received the first instalment of the aid (Rs 50,000) are building homes as per the requirements approved by the government, said NRA Spokesperson Ram Prasad Thapaliya. The teams will also be responsible for overseeing the house map approval process.
“There have been reports about fund misuse. We want the teams to inspect the process and those households found misusing the funds could become ineligible for second instalment of the aid,” Thapaliya said.
The government has decided to distribute Rs 300,000 each to the households affected by the earthquake in three portions of Rs 50,000, Rs 150,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively.
The NRA has so far distributed the first tranche of the aid to 431,190 of the 623,494 the earthquake-hit families.
