‘Improving biodiversity, ecosystem govt priority’

Minister for Forests and Soil Conservation Shankar Bhandari said on Wednesday that priority has been given to conservation programmes at community level to improve bio-diversity conservation and ecosystem.
Speaking at a programme titled “Policy on Payment for Ecosystem Service” jointly organised by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development and the environmental good governance task force in the Capital, Minister Bhandari said local community had benefited from programmes like management and conservation of community forests and buffer zones.
Speaking at the programme, Forest Secretary Krishna Chandra Poudel
shed light on the impact of development works on environment. Development works have been causing environmental degradation, said Poudel, stressing on the
need to find a way out to
conserve the environment while carrying out development efforts.
