Calling on the leadership to hold talks with different parties, including the Nepali Congress (NC), the CPN (Maoist Centre) has authorised Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to coordinate with all relevant forces to ensure that the impeachment motion against Lokman Singh Karki get ensured.

According to Maoist leader Mani Thapa Saturday’s meeting of the headquarters decided to task Dahal to coordinate with all the relevant parties regarding the impeachment motion against Karki.

“Party Chairman Dahal has been asked to take impeachment proposal to its logical conclusion,” Thapa said after the meeting.

During Saturday’s meeting, some leaders though expressed reservations about the way the impeachment motion was filed, almost all the leaders were for taking the proposal forward.

As many as 157 CPN-UML and Maoist Centre lawmakers on Wednesday evening had registered the impeachment motion against Karki at the Parliament Secretariat.

Karki’s status currently remains suspended as the chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

Party Chairman and Prime Minister Dahal was said to have been unaware of series of events that led to registration of the impeachment motion against Karki.

Most of the Maoist lawmakers wondered if the UML had used the Maoist Centre to break the Maoist-NC coalition.

The NC has also maintained that it was not consulted before the impeachment proposal was registered.

The NC, the largest party in Parliament with over 200 seats, is yet to come up with a clear position on the impeachment proposal.

The party so far is divided house, with a section of leaders making a strong pitch for standing in support of the motion and others calling on the party leadership to decide judiciously, as they fear the impeachment episode could affect the Maoist-NC alliance.

The NC’s support will be a must for endorsing the impeachment motion in the House, and the Maoist Centre is waiting for NC decision, which is likely to come by Monday.
