After Karki’s automatic suspension following an impeachment motion against him on Wednesday, Deep Basnyat, the seniormost commissioner, has taken over as the acting chief of the CIAA since Thursday, but Karki is still taking decisions from his quarters, according to sources.
CIAA sources said that some important files were taken to his quarters. Some other files related to corruption and some pending files that were waiting for Karki’s approval were also taken to Karki’s residence for clearance, the sources added.
But CIAA Assistant Spokesperson Khagendra Rijal refused the charges. “CIAA is an institution and it functions on its own,” he said.
Meanwhile, Advocate Om Prakash Aryal, who has challenged Lokman Singh Karki’s appointment as the CIAA at the Supreme Court, on Friday filed a supplementary application seeking to suspend all state facilities given to him.
Arguing that Karki could misuse authority at a time when his qualification to become the chief of the constitutional body and high moral character to hold the position are being tested at the court, the petitioner has demanded that all the state facilities provided to him be suspended pronto.
