Charikot Hosp resumes emergency service
Home Ministry recalls Assistant CDO Aulakh Bahadur Ale and DSP Rabin Karki to KathmanduCharikot Hospital, which had remained close after tensions following death of 18-month child, resumed emergency service on Saturday.
Medical workers had shut the OPD and emergency services in the hospital, demanding proper security after a video footage of doctors apologising to locals over the incident went viral on Facebook. The video, shot on Saturday, shows people shouting at the doctors as the health workers, standing in line just by the side of security personnel, say that they are sorry. A person from the hospital management committee reads out an agreement paper, accepting the “negligence of hospital” and making a commitment not to repeat such mistakes in future. The OPD services still remain shut with doctors firm on their demands.
Condemning the act, the Nepal Medical Association and other professional organisations have threatened to stage a stern protest if the guilty are not booked. Under mounting pressure, the government has since formed committees to probe into the incident and Home Ministry recalled Assistant Chief District Officer Aulakh Bahadur Ale and Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Karki to Kathmandu after they were also embroiled in the incident.
The NMA had “rescued” the doctors and health workers who were forced to apologise before an angry mob
in Dolakha. Locals had protested after a baby who
was admitted to the hospital in the wee hours on Friday and died on Saturday. They blamed doctors of negligence in the treatment.
