The meeting has decided that the party will “stand to uphold the constitution and implement it and follow a forward-looking policy”.
A statement issued by the party after the meeting said that the party would keep a watchful eye to avoid any activities that could harm the national interest. “The urges all the progressive and nationalist forces to remain united for national interest, constitution and national unity,” the party said, adding: “The CPN- UML will strongly move forward as guided by the constitutional process to cope with the emerging political situation.” On whether the party discussed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s resignation, Chhabilal Bishwokarma, a standing committee member, said, “None of our leaders spoke about the PM’s resignation.”

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the ruling alliance after the Maoist Centre decided to withdraw support for the government on Tuesday urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli not to resign. PM Oli said that he was ready to face any situation but would not step down. The meeting also decided to seek vote of confidence. Four deputy prime ministers and ministers were present at the meeting where they concluded that Maoist Centre’s decision was an “inappropriate move”, said DPM CP Mainali. After the meeting, PM Oli tweeted, “The ruling alliance has decided to face the new emerging political situation unitedly.” (PR)
