Former President Ram Baran Yadav is considering returning to Janakpur, his hometown, for good.
A family source told the Post that Yadav has been “extremely upset” by the way the government has treated him, and has made up his mind to return to Janakpur within a few days.
“The former president has been in a lot of mental stress following the row over the house he has been living in,” said the family source. “That’s why he wants to move to Janakpur. He may return to Janakpur permanently. However, no preparations have been made so far for Yadav to move into his house in Janakpur.” The former president has been residing in a rented house in Bhaisepati since October.
Two weeks ago, the owner of the house moved Lalitpur District Court, claiming that the government had failed to pay the rent and utility bills from mid-October 2015 to mid-July 2016, which amounted to more than a million rupees.
Following the complaint, the government on Sunday cleared the arrears.
The Office of the President confirmed that a cheque for Rs 1.23 million would be handed over to the house owner after “both sides settle the due process under the agreement.”
Rajendra Dahal, former adviser to Yadav, said the former president had called him and other advisers to seek suggestions.
“Since the landlord could lodge similar complaints in future as well, we advised him to find a new house,” said Dahal. “We suggested that he find a new house to avoid any controversy in future.”
