Deuba opposes Fast Track plan
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has opposed the government’s decision to build the Kathmandu-Nijgadh Fast Track using national resources.Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has opposed the government’s decision to build the Kathmandu-Nijgadh Fast Track using national resources.
Calling the proposal illogical, the leader of the main opposition party said international expertise should be used in the project. He recalled that the previous government had assigned an Indian company to do the preparatory works.
Deuba argued that it would take years for the road to be built if the government relied on internal resources. He said the decision could discourage foreign investment.
The NC, mainly its leader and former physical planning minister Bimalendra Nidhi, has been advocating granting the contract to the Indian company. During the NC Parliamentary Party meeting concluded on May 3, members had expressed concern over the delay in implementing the fast track project. (PR)
