A Canadian man has been arrested for his alleged provocative posts on twitter against social harmony. A team of Nepal police arrested Canadian Robert Penner from Lalitpur on the request of Immigration Department.
According to Lalitpur District Police Chief Pitambar Adhikari, Penner was arrested after complaints were filed that he posted lines on the social networking site that would incite social discord.
Director General at the Immigration Department Kedar Neupane acknowledged that the police were asked to arrest Penner. The Canadian has been living and working in Nepal for the past three years. He works as principal scientist at Cloud Factory.
“I repeatedly asked Nepal Police to tell me under what charges they’re taking me but they won’t say,” Penner tweeted after his arrest.
In recent times, he had been posting tweets on various issues of Nepal including Tarai agitation. He had also been writing controversial tweets regarding the arrest of noted journalist Kanak Mani Dixit by Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.
