UCPN (Maoist) leader Nanda Kishor Pun has won the vice presidential election.
Pun secured 325 of the total 547 votes cast at the election in Legislature Parliament. His rival,Nepali Congress’s Amiya Kumar Yadav received 212 votes. Ten votes were invalid.
The formal announcement was made by Speaker Onsari Gharti at the Parliament.
The election was held at the Legislature Parliament building in New Baneshwor from 11 am to 2 pm.
Forty-seven lawmakers including of the Madhes-based parties boycotted the election. They had also snubbed the presidential election.
The former PLA commander, Pun, had lost the second Constituent Assembly election to NC’s Gagan Thapa in Kathmandu-4.
The House session has been postponed for November 8.
