Dy PM Singh addresses UN Summit on post-2015 goals
Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Nepal Prakash Man Singh has addressed the Summit for the adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda in New York, on Saturday.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Nepal Prakash Man Singh has addressed the Summit for the adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda in New York, on Saturday. The ongoing Summit has adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development consisting 17 goals and 169 targets to be attained by 2030.
Addressing the Summit, Deputy Prime Minister Singh, who is in New York to attend 70th UN General Assembly session, said that the Agenda was both universal in scope and transformative in nature and manifested our collective pledge for the world's sustainable development. Highlighting the inherent nexus between democracy and development, he said, “people-centric development and governance system help to promote a sense of ownership.”
Hailing the promulgation of a new constitution in Nepal as a historic achievement, he further postulated that the constitution making process was democratic, inclusive, participatory and transparent.
On the sidelines of the Summit, Minister for Foreign Affairs Mahendra Bahadur Pandey held a bilateral meeting with his UAE counterpart His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on further strengthening the relations between the two countries. Matters concerning welfare of the Nepalese workers in the UAE, visa facilitation, Air Service Agreement and Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation were discussed in the meeting.
