UCPN (Maoist) leaders have drawn the attention of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Sunday urging him to address the demands of Dr Govinda KC. Dr KC, an orthopaedic surgeon, who is on fast-unto-death for last seven days, has been demanding reforms in medical education and an end to political meddling in universities.
In a four-party meeting on Sunday, UCPN (M) leader Baburam Bhattarai urged PM Koirala to seriously consider the demands of Dr KC. The party leaders agreed to seek progress from the government in the next meet.
"I have drawn the attention of the PM and top leaders of the major parties to address demands of Dr KC," Bhattarai told the Post.
Bhattarai visited Dr KC on Sunday morning and expressed his solidarity with the demands of Dr KC. He promised Dr KC to table the agendas at the meeting. According to MBBS students who have been assisting Dr KC, the Maoist leader has also taken along the copy of the protesting doctor’s demand.
