A 19-year-old girl, on her way to Dipayal from Bajhang, escaped from being raped by an ambulance driver on early Saturday night.
Police informed that the girl who was travelling with her father in an ambulance to Dipayal to take part in a scholarship exam in Seti Technical School barely managed the rape attempt by ambulance driver Ram Bahadur Khadka.
The girl and her father travelling from Bajhang arrived late night at Syaule in Dadeldhura from where they took the ambulance for their remaining journey to Dipayal.
The victim’s father informed police that the driver asked him to get off the vehicle saying that it had broken down. “As soon as I stepped out of the vehicle, he shut the ambulance door, accelerated away and tried to rape my daughter inside the ambulance,” he told to eKantipur.
The girl said that she defended herself from the inebriated driver for about 20 minutes and jumped off the vehicle. “He followed me so I ran barefoot for half an hour at night,” she said. It was only after she met her father on the road after an hour that the driver stopped chasing her.
The victim filed a complaint against the driver at District Police Office in Silgadhi after sitting on her exams at 8 Saturday morning.
Social Development Officer at the Municipal office, Ramesh Joshi, informed that the accused driver Khadka fled at night after parking the ambulance in the municipal office.
