Vice chairman, gen secy quit Amnesty International
Eight persons, including the vice chairperson and general secretary, of the Nepal chapter of Amnesty International have resigned from their post on Sunday.Ekantipur Report
Issuing a press statement, they put on papers expressing dissatisfaction towards the policy of the international human rights watchdog. They blamed the organisation of backing controversial madhesi activist CK Raut, who has been advocating for a secessionist campaign, but staying mum on the case of Krishna Prasad Adhikari, who died during a hunger strike demanding action against the murderers of his son Krishna Prasad.
Vice Chairperson Pratap Poudel, General Secretary Dik Prasad Ghimire, Secretary Prabin Agrawal, and members Arjun Adhikari, Padmini Thapa, Manjudevi Aryal, Sesh Kumari Niroula and Heramba Dev Bhattarai resigned on Sunday.
Earlier, former chairpersons Krishna Pahadi and Krishna Kadel had also decided to part ways with the organisation over the same issue.
