Lawati, 76, was admitted to the hospital on June 6 for heart problems.
A firm supporter of monarchy, Lawati was at the helm of several ministerial posts including Agriculture Ministry, Industry Ministry, Local Administration Ministry, among others, during the panchayat system and after the restoration of multi-party democracy.
Recently he had began the process of formation of new party accusing party Chairman Kamal Thapa of putting the party principles at stake for the sake of power. He was later expelled. The founding leader of the party, Lawati was also defeated by Thapa in Chairman election during its the party's first convention.
Lawati, who hails from Panchthar district, is survived by three sons and two daughters.
