Former SC Justice Upreti commits suicide

According to family sources, Upreti, 63, was found hanging in his study room at 3 am on Monday.
The police have put the time of death after 10 pm Sunday night.
Upreti’s body has been taken to Teaching Hospital, informed advocate Shiva Rijal, a colleague of Joshi at Pioneer Law Firm.
Upreti was living with his wife in the same house and is survived by two daughters and a son. His son, Anup Upreti is currently living separately at Sitapaila.
Metropolitan Police Office Chief SSP Uttam Karki said that investigation regarding the suicide of the former SC Justice is underway. “His body was found hanging,” said Karki, “We can comment on the case only after conducting further investigation.” SSP Karki informed that a suicide note was found in Upreti’s pocket and investigation regarding the authenticity of the note is being carried out.
“Do not perform by final rites. Please give my body to teaching hospital for educational purposes and deposit the cost of my rites, Rs 500,000, to the relief fund,” read the suicide note informed SSP Karki.
Upreti was known for his uncontroversial run during his time as temporary Justice at the Supreme Court before retiring. He was a lawyer for a well known organization before becoming a SC Justice. After retiring, Upreti was working as legal consultant to various private and corporate businesses.
