Rain exposes Valley’s poor drainage, early on
Brief but heavy thundershowers left the road network in the Valley in a mess on Thursday afternoon, affecting the movement of pedestrians and vehicles.Following the downpour, many places in the Capital faced water logging, thanks to the poor drainage system worsened by the ongoing road expansion drive.
According to the Met department, heavy rains, accompanied by thunderstorms, are normal during the pre-monsoon season from March until May.
A sudden change in weather caused by a local disturbance brought torrential rains inside Kathmandu Valley while some other parts of the country received brief showers on Thursday, said Samir Shrestha, a meteorologist.
The impact was higher in the Valley and some hill districts in the central region while some places in eastern and western Nepal received light rains.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, Kathmandu received 27 millimetres of rain on Thursday while rainfall was recorded also in Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Okhaldhunga, Jiri and Lumle.
“Kathmandu is likely to receive brief to heavy thundershowers in the afternoons until Saturday,” said Shrestha.
