Standing Committee member Binod Rai and Chairman of Dharan Metropolitan Committee, Ajay Rai announced their resignation from all committees of the party at a press conference in Dharan on Friday.
Earlier, Binod Rai had deserted Nepali Congress to join Samajwadi party after NC, which he had served for 25 years, refused to give him election ticket.
At the press meet, the leaders informed that they decided to quit after the party made ethnic politics as its major agenda and the leadership seemed weak to guide the party.
“The atmosphere of ethnic hatred has pervaded the Sanghiya Samajwadi Party. People who are guided by the belief system that Bahun/Chhetri should be butchered are in the leadership position. Such talks will only spread hatred and divide in the society. Therefore, we are unable to remain associated with such party,” said Binod Rai.
Binod Rai said the second Constituent Assembly failed to promulgate the constitution on slated date and created the environment of conflict by dividing the people in the name of ethnicity and religion. In such a scenario, it is not right to remain in a responsible post of the party, Rai added.
Binod Rai also said that there is no possibility of returning to his original party—Nepali Congress. He said that he will serve the country and its people as an independent person.
Three days ago, Sanghiya Samajwadi Party had expelled one Ratna Mani Rai following his alleged growing ties with Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist.
It is learnt that other office bearers of the metropolis are in line to quit the party. They informed at the press meet that they will quit the party soon.
