One person was killed in a fire likely caused by a cooking gas leak at a residential building in Kathmandu on Wednesday morning.

According to Superintendent of Police Apilraj Bohara, spokesperson for the Kathmandu District Police Range, the blaze broke out at a four-storey house owned by Dayaram Shrestha in Mahadev Chowk, Makhan Tole, in ward 24 of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been ascertained. Bohara said an adjacent five-storey house owned by Rukesh Shrestha also caught fire.

Personnel from the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police and city police were deployed to contain the blaze.
