One person was killed and another injured in a road accident involving a motorcycle and an auto-rickshaw in Salyan on Thursday night.

The accident occurred near Amra in ward 1 of Bangad Kupinde Municipality when an auto-rickshaw, heading from Sallibazar towards Baluwa, collided head-on with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.

Nabin Rana, 21, of ward 5 of the municipality, who was riding pillion on the motorcycle, died in the crash, said Police Inspector Baburam Basnet, the spokesperson for the District Police Office, Salyan.

The motorcycle rider, Sabin Rana, also 21 and from the same locality, sustained serious injuries. Both were taken to a local medical centre for initial treatment and later referred to Nepalgunj.

Nabin died while undergoing treatment at Bheri Hospital, according to Inspector Basnet. Sabin is currently receiving treatment at the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Nepalgunj. Police have taken the auto driver, Dhakbir Kami, 28, of ward 3 in Gurvakot Municipality in Surkhet, into custody.
