Nepal’s Covid-19 toll crosses 10,000 mark

Nepal’s Covid-19 toll crossed the 10,000 mark on Friday, with 25 new deaths recorded in the past 24 hours.
The death toll now stands at 10,019, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.
The country reported 2,430 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the nationwide infection tally to 710,509.
Similarly, 1,299 people tested positive in a total of 6,182 antigen tests, according to the Health Ministry.
As of Friday, 3,665,835 PCR and 349,543 antigen tests have been carried out across the country.
A total of 9,493 PCR tests were performed in the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
In its regular situation report, the ministry did not mention the death toll over the past 24 hours. It, however, reported 25 Covid-19-related fatalities, which included the number of deaths managed by Nepal Army on different dates.
The number of active cases stands at 34,942.
According to the ministry, 665,548 infected people have recovered from the disease so far; 1,885 of them in the last 24 hours.
Kathmandu Valley recorded 701 new infections in the past 24 hours. Of these, 471 cases were confirmed in Kathmandu, 147 in Lalitpur and 83 in Bhaktapur.
In the past 24 hours, 375 new infections were recorded in Province 1, 42 in Province 2, 1,066 in Bagmati, 639 in Gandaki, 167 in Lumbini, 62 in Karnali and 79 Sudurpaschim.
According to the data released by the ministry, 16 districts are home to more than 500 active cases each and 20 other districts host more than 200 active cases each.
On Friday, 732 individuals infected with the virus were being treated in intensive care units across the country. Another 158—43 in Province 1, 91 in Bagmati, two in Gandaki, 14 in Lumbini, two in Karnali and six in Sudurpaschim—were on ventilator support.
Nepal on Thursday reported 3,007 new coronavirus cases and 37 new deaths. Similarly, 2,975 new coronavirus cases and 35 new deaths were recorded on Wednesday and 2,448 new coronavirus cases and 24 new deaths were reported on Tuesday.
