Nepal reports one more Covid-19 related death and 101 new cases on Friday; national tally reaches 17,445
With 285 in the last 24 hours, 11,534 people have recovered from the infection so far, says the Health Ministry.Post Report
Nepal on Friday reported its 40th Covid-19 related death and 101 new Covid-19 cases to take the national tally to 17,445.
A 73-year-old man from Rajbiraj Municipality Ward No. 1, Saptari district, who was on ventilator support at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, died at 10:15 pm on Thursday, said said Dr Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson for the Health Ministry during his daily press briefing on Friday.
“He was admitted to the emergency ward of the hospital on Wednesday for cough, fever and breathing-related ailments,” Gautam said. “His coronavirus test was carried out in which he tested positive.”
According to Gautam, he was a diabetic and suffering from heart-related ailments for a long time.
Of 101 new cases announced Friday, 22 are from Lamjung district.
Throat swabs of of 79 other individuals, including 13 from Rolpa, 10 from Bardiya, eight each from Rautahat and Dhanusha, seven from Tanahun, five from Dang, three each from Bara and Nawalparasi (East), two each from Bhaktapur, Jhapa, Morang, Nuwakot, and Parsa, one each from Kathmandu, Kavre, Makwanpur, Sindhuli, Palpa, Rupandehi, Salyan, Rukum (West), Bajhang, Dadeldhura, Doti and Saptari districts, tested positive for the virus.
According to the ministry, 285 people were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total recovered cases to 11,534. “Currently there are 5,871 active cases in the country,” he said.
The ministry said 4,688 PCR tests were carried out across the country in the last 24 hours. The total number of PCR tests performed so far has reached 308,498.
Five districts—Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Manang, Mustang and Humla—don’t have any active cases, Gautam said.
Nepal had reported 167 new cases on Thursday. The ministry had confirmed Nepal’s 39th Covid-19 related death and 116 new cases on Wednesday. Similarly, there were 116 cases reported on Tuesday, 144 new cases on Monday and 82 on Sunday. Three Covid-19 related deaths and 70 new cases were recorded on Saturday.
The number of coronavirus cases in the country have been 100-odd every day since last Thursday.
