The Annapurna Circuit trail, which was blocked by last week’s heavy snowfall, has reopened for trekkers.
According to officials, the route was cleared through the combined efforts of the District Administration Office, security personnel, local representatives, the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), and hotel entrepreneurs. Snow was removed using bulldozers and labourers between Khangsar and Mananggaun, reopening lower sections of the trail. In the high-altitude regions, local representatives and hotel operators worked together to clear the paths.
The snowfall had forced both domestic and foreign trekkers heading toward Tilicho and Thorong La to return. With the weather improving, tourist movement has started to pick up again, said Karma Ongyel Ghale, chairperson of the Hotel Entrepreneurs’ Association of Upper Manang. “The weather has been getting better in recent days, and more trekkers are arriving. There are slightly more foreigners than Nepalis,” he said.

ACAP Manang chief Dhak Bahadur Bhujel said the weather has cleared and snowfall has stopped. “The route to Thorong La is now fully open, and Tilicho is also accessible,” he said, adding that trekkers from the Manaslu region have also begun arriving. “The trail is open for guided groups, though we have advised caution,” he added.
Chief District Officer Nawaraj Paudyal confirmed that the trail from Upper Chame to Thorong La Pass and the Manang–Khangsar–Tilicho route is open. “Trekkers with guides are allowed to proceed. However, those unfamiliar with the route may face difficulties due to patches of snow,” he said, urging trekkers to remain cautious as some sections remain slippery.
With the reopening of the route and clearer weather, tourist activity in the region has started to rise.
