Post Report
Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate Swarnim Wagle has maintained his lead as vote counting is underway in Tanahun-1.
As per the latest update, Wagle has received 12,705 votes. Govinda Bhattarai of the Nepali Congress has garnered 7,646 votes.
Likewise, CPN-UML’s Sarbendra Khanal is third with 4,219 votes.
Vote counting is yet to start in Bara-2 and Chitwan-2.
Meanwhile, a complaint has been registered at the Office of Chief Returning Officer in Chitwan-2 against Rastriya Swatantra Party President and candidate Rabi Lamichhane, on Sunday, accusing him of flouting the election code of conduct.
Voting was suspended for two hours at a voting centre in Nayakiran Secondary School following a dispute over a violation of the code of conduct by the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
During an all-party meeting held at that centre, the representatives of the Swatantra Party admitted that the code of conduct was violated.
By-elections were conducted in three constituencies on Sunday after the seats had become vacant.
Ramchandra Paudel and Ramsahay Prasad Yadav—who were elected from Tanahun-1 and Bara-2—became President and Vice President, respectively.
Lamichhane had lost his parliamentary post after the Supreme Court invalidated the citizenship certificate he produced while filing his candidacy. He has now re-acquired the certificate.
