Second defeat leaves Nepal’s title hopes hanging.
Post Report
Nepal endured another disappointing outing in age-group women’s football on Sunday, going down 3-0 to Bangladesh in the U-17 Women’s SAFF Championship in Thimphu, Bhutan. The loss has further dented Nepal’s standing in the tournament.
The championship follows a double round-robin format. Sunday’s defeat was Nepal’s second in three matches, leaving their title hopes in doubt. They lost 7-0 to India in their opening game and narrowly defeated Bhutan in their second match.
Thuinuye Marma opened the scoring for Bangladesh in the 41st minute, followed by Sauravi Akanda Prity’s strike in the 44th minute, doubling their lead. Mamoni Chakma sealed the win with a goal in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time. Nepal created several opportunities throughout the match, but none proved decisive. The loss leaves Nepal with just three points from three games.
Bangladesh have collected six points from three matches following their second win. India, having won all three games, lead the table with nine points and remain a strong contender for the title. India defeated Bhutan 8-0 in the first match on Sunday. With zero points, Bhutan sits at the bottom among the four participating teams. Hosts Bhutan are also out of title contention. Under the double round-robin format, the team topping the league stage will be crowned champion. Nepal will face Bangladesh again on Wednesday, while India will play Bhutan.
