Jawalakhel Youth Club defeated Satdobato Youth Club 2-1 to move to the top of the standings in the Martyrs Memorial A-Division League at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato on Tuesday.
Fode Fofana and Nkoto Synous Masoabi found the net on either side of the half-time to give Jawalakhel their fourth win of the season. The win also helped them replace the losing side in the top position with 13 points.
Satdobato dropped to third position following the loss.
Fofana put Jawalakhel in front from the spot kick after Satdobato goalie Abhishek Baral badly tackled Harish Raj Batta inside the penalty area.
Masoabi then showed control and precision before finding the back of the net to extend the lead five minutes after the break.
Dipak Raj Singh Thakuri pulled one back for Satdobato in the 75th minute.
“The team work was good. Players gave their cent percent in the match today,” Jawalakhel coach Sunil Kumar Shrestha said.
“But we still have room for improvement, especially in the finishing,” he added.
Church Boys United (CBU) also missed their chance to retake the top position after they threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with New Road Team (NRT) in a dramatic afternoon at the Chyasal Stadium, thanks to a late equaliser from Saroj Tamang.
CBU are level on 12 points with Satdobato but occupy the second spot due to a superior goal difference. It was the league debutants’ third straight draw followed by three successive wins, meaning they now remain the only team to stay unbeaten in the league.
Aashish Chaudhary gave CBU the lead in the 20th minute thanks to a brilliant pass from Ashish Chapagain.
Ashish Chapagain put Aashish Chaudhary through on goal with a pass between Jean Anicet Mboumi and Ajay Chaudhary and the forward controlled the ball neatly on the run before poking a low shot past NRT goalkeeper Pujan Hona.
Ananta Tamang doubled the lead scoring a 35-yard freekick in the 62nd minute.
Second-half substitute Rohan Khadgi cut the deficit in the 71st minute when he slipped behind the CBU defence to meet a pass from Mboumi before dunking an easy goal.
Tamang then sent in a 20-yard screamer in the fourth minute of second half injury time to level the score.
Record eight-time champions Manang Marshyangdi Club could take the top position for the first time if they beat Friends Club in the last match of the sixth round on Friday.
