Waling Municipality foreign recruit Metho Eludie Ruth scored a double as they defeated Chandrapur Municipality 3-0 to pull off their second win in the National Women’s Football League on Tuesday. Another foreign signing Touta Ornella Evanice Noelle scored the other goal for the winning side.
In the day’s only game at the ANFA Complex, Waling took the lead with a 37th minute free kick from Noelle. Asmita Baidya brought down Surakshya Sukhariya in Chandrapur’s half and the Cameroonian floated the free kick beyond goalkeeper Yunisha Rai to give Waling the advantage.
Waling doubled their lead at the half hour mark when Saraswoti Hamal set up Ruth who skilfully placed the ball past four defenders into the bottom corner from outside the box.
Waling were dominant after the break as well and the Cameroonian Ruth put the result beyond doubt darting at a cross from Sukhariya near the post in the 53rd minute.
But, to add to Chandrapur’s misery, the scorer collided with the advancing custodian before both fell onto the ground. After a lengthy treatment, goalkeeper Rai had to be stretchered off the ground.
Rabina Maya Ghalan came off the bench to replace the first-choice goalie but no more goals were scored.
Noelle was adjudged player of the match.
The win sent Waling up to fourth in the standings with eight points from six matches, level with third placed Nepal Police Club who meet fifth placed Biratnagar Metropolitan City on Wednesday.
This is the fifth defeat for Chandrapur. They are second from bottom after managing only one win.
Tribhuvan Army Club are second on the table with 10 points and face winless Chaudandigadhi in Wednesday’s other fixture.
Unbeaten Armed Police Force Club lead the standings with 18 points.
