Budathoki heroic secures Hamro Purbanchal Gold Cup for Army

Stand-in-skipper Tek Bahadur Budathoki scored a brace for Tribhuvan Army Club in the final as they overcame Church Boys United 2-0 to claim the Hamro Purbanchal Gold Cup at the Domalal Stadium in Birtamod, Jhapa, on Sunday.
Budathoki put the departmental team ahead in the 31st minute and ensured the victory with his second goal of the match in the 80th minute. Unmarked Budathoki slammed in from the area capitalising on a Tanka Basnet cross. The forward volleyed in Bivek Basnet pass to confirm the title.
Despite throwing a tough challenge against the physically superior opponents, Church Boys squandered many scoring opportunities. Umesh Rai ended up applying a feeble shot in the ninth minute only for Army goalie Bikash Chaudhary to grip. In the 20th, Kailash Basnet scorcher sailed above the bar and five minutes later Sunil Khadka wasted a sitter as he hit off the target at an open post.
Army came close to scoring two minutes after the interval as Deepak Gurung unleashed a scorcher forcing goalie Binay Shrestha to punch to safety. Rajendra Rawal of Church Boys was sent off in the stoppage time, he was shown his second yellow.
Ashok Khawas of Church Boys was named the man-of-the-match and bagged Rs 10,000. Army dominated the individual awards claiming six out of five honors. Army's Bibash Chaudhary was named best goalkeeper of the tournament while his teammates Deepak Gurung (defender), Tanka Basnet (forward) and Nabin Neupane (coach) also won individual awards. Sunil Khadka of Church Boys scooped the best midfielder award. All of them walked away with Rs 15,000 each.
Army skipper Budathoki was declared the best player of the tournament. He was rewarded with a purse of Rs 50,000 in addition to a television set. Winners Army received Rs 1.25 million and Church Boys walked away with Rs 625,000.
