Manang Marshyangdi Club and Brigade Boys Club advanced to the semi-finals of the Lalit Memorial U-18 football tournament winning their quarter-final matches at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato on Sunday.
A solitary goal from Sarbocha Rai was sufficient for Manang to register a 1-0 victory over Himalayan Sherpa Club in the first quarter-final match. Manang had made it to the knockout stage as one of the two best third-place teams while Himalayan Sherpa had secured a berth for last eight as the winners of Group ‘A’.
The late quarter-final match of the day saw Brigade Boys Club edge Nepal Armed Police Force Club 2-1. Brigade netted a goal each either side of the break to see off the challenge from departmental team. Birjesh Chaudhary put APF ahead in the third minute before Roshan Rana Magar doubled their advantage in the 51st minute. APF pulled one back in the stoppage time but they run out of time in their bid to push the match to extra time.
Brigade Boys, who made to the last eight as the winners of Group ‘C’, will meet Manang in the semi-finals on Thursday. Tribhuvan Army Club will take on Jawalakhel Youth Club before Nepal Police Club will take on Machhindra Club in the remaining two quarter-finals on Monday.
