Where to be when the clock strikes 12 in Kathmandu

The year 2020 is at the world’s doorstep, and it won’t be long until people sing, and dance to welcome the new year as the clock strikes 12.
As with every year, there’s bound to be parties and revelry—but where does one go and what should one do? Here’s a list of some of the top events for New Year’s Eve, and the day after the night before, when sore heads might need a little curing.
Bipul and band
What better way to celebrate the New Year than with the popular Bipul Chettri and The Travelling Band. Held at Privé, the venue promises “grandeur and electrifying vibes”. The event kicks off at 7pm, and tickets cost Rs1,500 presale and Rs2,000 at the door.

Pop a cork
At both Marriott’s restaurants, Thamel Kitchen and Edamame, parties will be hosted to welcome the New Year—as well as a bash at the hotel’s ballroom. From 8pm until 12am, Thamel Kitchen will host a dinner buffet, with unlimited carbonated beverages and a complimentary glass of champagne, for Rs6,000 plus taxes.
At Edamame, a slightly more formal affair will be held from 8pm. A six-course degustation meal will be accompanied by an acoustic band, glass of champagne and unlimited sodas for Rs7,500, before taxes. Both restaurants will invite diners to join the ballroom for the official countdown into the New Year.
Arguably the largest of the hotel’s parties will be in the ballroom, where Mukti & Revival and bellydancers will entertain the crowds, followed by a set from DJ Quinn. The ballroom will also play host to a buffet dinner, a complimentary glass of champagne and plenty of dancing. Tickets cost Rs5,000 before taxes.

Buffet and a band
Live music, from band Phosphene, will reverberate through Aloft’s restaurant Nook from 6.30pm on the 31st, until the clock strikes 12. The ticket price of Rs3,500, without taxes, will include an extensive buffet dinner as well as a band performance. Located close to the heart of Thamel, the area will be party central for Kathmandu.

Band, DJ and a lavish buffet dinner
Like every New Year’s Eve, this year too Gokarna Forest Resort will be hosting a lavish New Year’s Eve event. The event will start at 7:30 pm, with a live performance by Symphony Band, followed by Bollywood dance and a set by DJ Aman. Ticket price is Rs5,000 (for a child), Rs7,500 (single), and Rs13,000 (for two). The prices are inclusive of all taxes and include lavish buffet, free flow of premium drinks, beer, and soft drinks.

Dinner and a DJ
Like the Marriott, Hyatt Regency will host a number of different events for the New Year. At The Cafe, there will be yet another buffet dinner, with complimentary soft drinks and a selected premium beverage for Rs5,400 before taxes, with the option off adding an additional Rs1,600 for unlimited premium beverages. Children below 12 are entitled to a 50 percent discount. On top of that, there’s free entry to the Rox Bar, where there will be another party, of sorts.
Rox Bar will host a DJ session, for Rs2,500 per person before taxes. The ticket price includes one snack item and a couple of premium drinks, and there is the option of purchasing an unlimited premium beverage ticket.
But at Rox Restaurant a six-course Italian a-la-carte menu will be rolled out, with wine pairings to boot. Like the other events, there will be free entry to Rox Bar for the New Year’s revelry and children dine half-price. Tickets will cost Rs5,800 before taxes, and there is the option of unlimited premium beverages on top of that.

Adrian Pradhan at Attic
Highly-acclaimed singer Adrian Pradhan will be joined by his collective at Attic on New Year’s Eve, where people will be able to hear the 1974AD singer belting out well known tunes into the darker hours of the evening. Kicking off at 7.30pm, and with complimentary drinks included, the event costs Rs1,000 per person.

The big bash
Soaltee will once again host its grand event in its ballroom and garden area.
Indian Singer Arpita Dey will be joined by dance troupe Beat Busters for the event, starting at 8pm. Included in the Rs12,000 per person ticket price (Rs22,000 per couple) will be free-flowing premium drinks, unlimited snacks and a buffet spread for dinner.
For those who don’t want to make a big fuss for the New Year, there will be a smaller celebration at the hotel’s restaurant Garden Terrace. There a DJ will perform, there will also be a buffet dinner with unlimited snacks and both alcoholic and non-acoholic beverages, for Rs6,000 per adult.
Both events will have door prizes, which include hotel stays in IHG properties across India, meal vouchers at five-star hotels, and airline tickets from Qatar Airways, Cathay Dragon, Oman Air. There will also be mountain flight tickets from Yeti Airlines and Buddha Air, as well as other prizes.

The day after
Aloft
From 12pm, hangovers will be able to faught at Aloft’s buffet restaurant Nook. Running until 3pm, Aloft’s diverse and well-known buffet will roll out everything needed to quell the symptoms of a hardcore New Year’s Eve—from baked goods to bacon and eggs, there’s bound to be something to help.

Fairfield by Marriott
New Year’s resolutions can wait until the second day of the month, so there’s no reason to skip starting the New Year with a hearty brunch. With non-alcholic beverages, the buffet brunch will cost Rs2,500, or with alcohol the event will cost Rs3,000 per person.
