Nepal eliminated after third straight defeat in T20 World Cup
Nine-wicket loss to West Indies confirms exit before final group match against Scotland.Post Report
Nepal have been knocked out of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup after suffering a third consecutive defeat in Group C, ending their hopes of reaching the Super Eight.
The elimination was confirmed on Sunday after Nepal lost to the West Indies by nine wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. With three losses from as many matches, Nepal cannot progress to the next stage even if they win their final fixture against Scotland.
Nepal had earlier suffered a four-run defeat against England in a closely contested match. They were then beaten by Italy by ten wickets in their second outing. The latest loss to West Indies sealed their exit from the tournament.
Nepal, sent in to bat against the West Indies, never found sustained momentum and finished on 133 for 8 from their 20 overs. The innings began poorly as Kushal Bhurtel fell for one in the opening over to Akeal Hosein. Rohit Paudel and Aasif Sheikh followed soon after, leaving Nepal reeling at 17 for 3 inside five overs.
Dipendra Singh Airee anchored the recovery with a composed 58 off 47 balls, striking three fours and three sixes. He rebuilt cautiously before accelerating in the latter stages. However, wickets continued to fall at the other end. Aarif Sheikh managed only 2, while Lokesh Bam made 13. Gulsan Jha contributed 11 but was bowled by Roston Chase at the end of the 15th over.

Sompal Kami provided a late push, remaining unbeaten on 26 off 15 deliveries, hitting four boundaries as Nepal put 133 runs on the board at the loss of eight wickets.
Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers, claiming four for 27 in his four overs, removing Aasif, Airee and Karan KC to restrict Nepal’s total.
In reply, the West Indies were measured and clinical. Brandon King struck 22 before falling to Nandan Yadav in the sixth over with the score at 43. From there, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer ensured there were no further setbacks.
Hope, captaining the side, compiled an unbeaten 61 off 44 balls, reaching his half-century in 38 deliveries. Hetmyer supported him with a fluent 46 not out from 32 balls. The pair added an unbroken 91-run stand for the second wicket.
West Indies crossed 100 in the 12th over and completed the chase in 15.2 overs at 134 for 1, sealing a dominant victory to strengthen to qualify for the Super Eight.
