Unbeaten Nepal clinch ICC T20 World Cup Asia & EAP Qualifier title
The Rhinos secure their biggest ICC tournament triumph with a 124-run victory against Samoa.
Post Report
Nepal on Friday clinched the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia-Pacific Qualifier title, defeating Samoa by 124 runs in their final match at Al Amerat Cricket Ground, Oman. The team remained unbeaten, winning all matches from the group stage through the Super Six round.
This is the biggest tournament Nepal has won in competitions organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). In October 2018, Nepal won the Eastern regional tournament held in Malaysia for the T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier.
Nepal have already secured their berth at the 2026 T20 World Cup, in a second consecutive entry for the Rhinos, who had first played the top match in 2014.
Put to bat first, Nepal posted 211 for four in their 20 overs. The innings began strongly, with Kushal Bhurtel scoring 17 off 15 balls before losing the first wicket at 63 runs in the seventh over.
Aasif Sheikh then anchored the innings, adding 69 off 41 balls, including seven fours and four sixes, as the score reached 110 for two. Aarif Sheikh was dismissed for nine, but Dipendra Singh Airee accelerated with 53 from 33 balls. In the final overs, Rohit Paudel remained unbeaten on 21 off 12 deliveries, and Lokesh Bam finished with a rapid 39 not out from 12 balls, pushing the total past 210.
Samoa struggled in reply, losing wickets regularly. Darius Visser fell early for four, and top-order batsmen Benjamin Mailata and Solomon Nash were dismissed cheaply. Sean Solia scored 40, but wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals.
Lalit Rajbanshi picked up three wickets, Lamichhane, Karan KC and Paudel took one each. Samoa were eventually bowled out for 87 in 20 overs, falling short by 124 runs.
