Biratnagar Kings set a modest target of 118 runs against Kathmandu Gurkhas in the Nepal Premier League match at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, on Sunday.
Opting to field, Kathmandu’s bowlers delivered early breakthroughs, with Dan Douthwaite trapping Lokesh Bam leg-before in the third over. Dipak Bohara (20) and Nicholas Kirton (12) sought to stabilise the innings but were dismissed during the powerplay, leaving Biratnagar at 38-2.
The middle order faltered under pressure from Dipesh Kandel and Gerhard Erasmus. Erasmus, who claimed 3-17, was pivotal, removing Scott Edwards (15), Chris Sole (1), and captain Sandeep Lamichhane for a duck. Kandel supported with figures of 2-16, while Shahab Alam and Karan KC chipped in with a wicket each.
Rajesh Pulami top-scored with 25 off 21, including the only six of the innings, but lacked lower-order support. Biratnagar’s innings ended in the final over when Subash Bhandari was run out for six.
Kathmandu, currently fifth on the points table with six points from six matches, must win this match to remain in playoff contention. They also require a significant net run rate boost and a Karnali Yaks loss against Sudurpaschim Royals on Monday to secure their spot.
Biratnagar have already been eliminated, having managed just four points from six games.
