Bagmati Province wrapped up their group stage of the Prime Minister Cup Men’s National Cricket Tournament with a comfortable six wicket win over Lumbini Province at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Saturday.
Surya Tamang starred for Bagmati again with another six-wicket haul to help Rit Gautam-led side register their sixth victory in nine matches and stayed in the second position with 12 points.
However, Bagmati will have to wait as their fate will depend on the results of other matches, with Madhesh Province, Tribhuvan Army Club, Sudurpaschim Province and Armed Police Force Club all in the final and top four race.
Perfect Police lead the standings with 12 points and still have three matches in hand. They are the top favourites to secure the top two position and a spot in the final.
Third-placed Madhesh have 10 points from eight games and play Lumbini in their last group fixture on Sunday.
Army and Sudurpaschim—level on eight points—closely follow and also have three games in hand.
The top two teams progress to the final, while the top four teams qualify for the Elite Trophy.
APF are also in contention after they beat Gandaki Province by 88 runs at the Mulpani Cricket Ground in the day’s other fixture.
At Mulpani, Tamang showcased his lethal spin and took 6-26—his second six-wicket haul in this tournament—to restrict Lumbini to a paltry 106 total in 32.2 overs after Bagmati won the toss and elected to field first. Tamang has now taken 30 wickets at the PM Cup this season.
Tamang also found support from Bipin Acharya (2-22) in Bagmati’s bowling attack.
Captain Sushant Thapa top scored for Lumbini with 28 runs.
In the chase, Ishan Pandey scored a half-century and put on a 61-run stand with captain Gautam (24) for the second wicket to guide Bagmati to 107-4 in just 17.2 overs.
At Mulpani, APF, who were invited to bat first, posted 207 all out in 47.2 overs, courtesy of a half-century partnership from Lokesh Bam and Puran BK followed by a late rally from Bhuvan Karki and Pradeep Airee.
Bam and BK put on a 70-run stand to give APF a solid start but a middle order collapse saw them reeling at 102-6 in the 27th over.
But Karki and Aireee brought APF back into the game with a 69-run partnership for the second wicket.
Gandaki’s Kamal Pariyar took three wickets, while Amrit Gurung, Bipin Khatri and Sandeep Parajuli pocketed two wickets each.
In the ensuing chase, APF’s Aram Routela took 4-17 and Mousom Dhakal returned the match figures of 3-15 to restrict Gandaki to 119 in 33.4 overs.
Sameer Kandel (33) provided the highest score for Gandaki. Ishwar Chhetri contributed 28 runs.
